Trump's reckless actions continue to destabilize the world

Donald Trump walked into a million-dollar-a-ticket fundraiser at Mar-a-Lago, danced for three minutes, and walked out. Hours later, he announced on Truth Social that the United States had launched a major military operation against Iran. Not from the Situation Room. Not in an address to the nation. In a glitchy eight-minute video posted to his own platform. He did it all without congressional approval, in direct violation of the Constitution.

The questions behind this decision run deep. There was no imminent threat presented to Congress or the public. Nuclear negotiations were reportedly making progress just hours before the strikes began. Meanwhile, Trump’s approval ratings are cratering, the Epstein files continue to surface, and the midterms are closing in. Iran retaliated within hours, striking at Israel and U.S. bases across the region, and the entire Middle East is now engulfed in a crisis that didn’t have to happen.

And then there’s the history we can’t ignore. From the 1953 CIA coup that overthrew Iran’s democratically elected leader, to backing Saddam Hussein in the Iran-Iraq War, to Trump’s own withdrawal from the nuclear deal in 2018, the Iranian people have endured seventy years of broken promises from the United States. Two things can be true at once. The Iranian regime is brutal, and its fall is long overdue. And this war is unconstitutional, reckless, and driven by self-interest. The people paying the real price are our military families and the innocent civilians caught in the middle.
